• felicity - in a state of being happy (marital felicity), or a skillful faculty (felicity of expression)
• polemic - controversial, argumentative - from the greek word for 'war' (also, polemical) (a polemic paper, a desire to avoid the polemical)
• provenance - a place or source of origin
• atavism - a trait of an ancestor, reappearing after an absence; reversion to an earlier type, throwback.
• fecund - capable of producing offspring or vegetation; intellectually productive - "a fecund imagination"
• tortuous - twisted or full of turns; or deceitful, morally crooked
• parsimonious - sparing in expenditure; frugal to excess
